Summer Letter

Chair: Mrs Lynda Woodburn, Dalton St Mary’s CE Primary School

Vice Chair: Mrs Sarah Powell, Burlington CE Primary and Nursery School

Dear Parents and Carers,

Our school is part of a group of schools, the Furness Primary Collaborative (FPC), who work together to ensure our schools provide the best opportunities for our children and families.

During the challenging period of school closure the FPC continued to work together to ensure school places were available for children of Keyworkers, whether in their own school or through forming a hub with other schools in our collaborative.

As our schools continue to open to wider groups of children thoughts are now turning towards provision during the summer break and, understandably, the need for working parents to plan ahead for childcare.

Discussions are taking place at a Local Authority and Government level and Headteachers of schools within the FPC discussed this issue at a meeting earlier this week. The outcome of the FPC meeting is that our group of schools will not be open during the Summer break (17th July - 2nd September 2020)

As a group, we are proactively seeking information regarding any local or national level offers of childcare during the summer break. Please be reassured that you will be kept informed of any provision, which may arise from a Local Authority or Government offer such as Hubs, Summer Camps or the Holiday Activities and Food Scheme. Details of these have not yet been shared with schools but as soon as we have any information, it will be shared with parents.

As stated earlier in this letter the Furness Primary Collaborative have ensured all children of Keyworkers have been able to access childcare each day when required. This included the period of the Easter and Half term holidays. Where there was a need schools, within the collaborative, have remained open each day since February half term alongside providing daily home learning for all pupils.

As a group of schools we felt our parents needed as much notice as possible to support their plans for childcare during the holiday period.

This has been a challenging time for everyone and all schools within the FPC are grateful for the support of our families. We are not yet clear what September will look like when we return but each school within the FPC will be working hard to ensure we provide the best education and care for our children and families.

We thank you for taking the time to read this correspondence. Any questions you may have should be made to your child's school who will be happy to help.

Kind regards,
